Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has spoken out against those taking advantage of the ongoing nationwide protests to destroy and loot properties of fellow Nigerians. The protests, which began on Thursday, aim to address the high level of hardship in the country.
However, reports emerged of hoodlums exploiting the peaceful demonstrations to vandalize government and private properties. Makinwa took to her X handle to express her disapproval, stating that such actions are unjustifiable.
"Destroying properties and stealing from your fellow Nigerians who are passing through the same hardship is not right at all. This is very sad," she wrote.
When a critic suggested that her tweet implied the protesters were responsible for the looting, Makinwa clarified her stance. "I did not say the stealing and vandalism was done by protesters," she explained. "The people who have their things stolen are Nigerians too, going through the same hardship. What have they done to deserve this?"
Makinwa's response emphasizes the importance of maintaining a peaceful and respectful approach during protests. She highlights that the individuals affected by the looting are also struggling with the same hardships, making such actions even more unjustifiable.
