Controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has filed an appeal challenging the six-month prison sentence imposed on him by the Federal High Court in Lagos State for abusing and mutilating the naira. His lawyer, Bimbo Kusanu, filed the notice of appeal, which seeks to set aside the sentence and replace it with an option of N50,000 fine on each of the counts. Kusanu argues that the trial court did not consider the positive antecedent of Bobrisky and did not exercise its discretion judiciously and judicially in sentencing him. The appeal also alleges that the sentence was punitive and contrary to the mandatory provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act. A ruling on the appeal has yet to be made by the Court of Appeal.
