Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems recently opened up about her experience with bullying over the pitch of her voice. In an interview with The Cut, she shared that she didn't start speaking until she was three years old.
Tems explained that she grew up feeling self-conscious because her voice didn't sound like other girls'. She faced bullying and ridicule, which made her believe that her voice was ugly and that she sounded like a boy or a frog. To cope with this, Tems found solace in her own little world and used music as a way to express herself. She mentioned that she started making music because she didn't have many friends. It's incredible how she turned her passion into something beautiful and inspiring.
