Veteran Nollywood actress and politician, Hilda Dokubo, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu following his declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. The decision, which includes the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and state lawmakers for six months, has sparked widespread reactions.
President Tinubu, in a national address on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, justified his move by citing the ongoing political crisis in the state. However, many, including Dokubo, have expressed concerns over the implications of this decision.
Reacting via her Instagram page, Dokubo accused the President of attempting to take control of Rivers State’s economic resources. She questioned the rationale behind the state of emergency, especially given the relative peace in the state over the past two years.
“State of emergency because for two years we have had peace! State of emergency because you want to capture the economic soul of Rivers State! State of emergency because of one man?” she wrote.
The actress further likened the situation to George Orwell’s Animal Farm, implying that Rivers State citizens are being subjected to unfair governance.
The declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State has intensified political debates across the country, with many awaiting further developments on the matter.
