Nigerian Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has highlighted the importance of building strong relationships with fans, emphasizing that it goes beyond just releasing music. Speaking on the Shopping The Sneakers podcast, Savage explained that when artists connect deeply with their fanbase, fans become invested in all aspects of their lives, not just their music.
“It’s not just about the music; it’s your fanbase and your brand. You’ve to think of your fashion. You’ve to be relatable. A lot of times, artists are just putting out music; they are not really connecting with the fans,” she said.
Savage praised her industry peers Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy for establishing strong bonds with their fans, which keeps them relevant whether they are dropping new songs or not. “If you look at Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, they have established relationships with their fanbases. They love their lifestyles. Whether they are dropping a song or not, they are in the conversation. So it’s really important to build a fanbase. You are only as good as your team,” she added.
Her statement has sparked conversations about the evolving role of fan engagement in the success and longevity of artists in the Afrobeats scene.
